Programming Garage Door Openers
Step 1: Switch on the car ignition.
Step 2a (Optional): Reset all of the system memory to reset all previous settings. Hold the outside transmitter buttons (1 and 3) for approximately 20 seconds, but less than 30 seconds. (The indicator lamp will begin flashing around the 20 second mark and then you can let go.)
Step 2b (Optional): Reset a single channel by holding the desired channel you wish to reset for approx 20 seconds, but less than 30 seconds. (The indicator lamp will begin flashing around the 20 second mark and then you can let go.)
Step 3: (DO NOT SKIP! - including remotes with rolling codes) Sit in your car with the remote and get ready to click the button on the remote as well as the garage opener in the car. Now click and hold both buttons down. After approximately 5 seconds, the indicator light in the car will start blinking faster. When this happens, release both buttons.
Step 4: Click the button you just programmed in the car. If the indicator light is a steady light, the garage door you selected should open. If the indicator light flashes constantly, you have a rolling code (Go to step 5). If you do not have a rolling code and the door has not opened, test the button. If the opener is still not working, see note below.
Step 5: (For Rolling Code Remotes Only) Hit the training button on the motor head of your garage door opener unit (usually red, orange or purple - located by the settings to the door stop, where the wires go into the unit). Quickly return to the car and hold the garage door opener button (that you programmed before) for 2 seconds, release it, and then press this same button again for another 2 seconds.
Step 6: Test the garage door to confirm that it opens.
NOTE: In case you're having more issues (especially in Canada): If this does not work, something could have gone wrong while initially programming the remote. To correct this, hit the transmitter button in the car and hold it down until you're done. Then repeat the following until the indicator light flashes: Hold down the button on the remote for 2 seconds, release it, then press it again for another 2 seconds. If the garage door opens and your indicator light is not flashing, you're done. If it continues flashing, you have a rolling code remote, and you need to go back, check that you did Step 3 and then repeat Step 5.
